The discontent of Salieri in his ability is seen from Mozartââ¬â¢s emergence to redo the composition of Salieri and turn it into what becomes the Non pià ¹ andrai which touches even the attention of Salieriââ¬â¢s own wife. The Republic by Plato Essay In the book The Republic, Plato explores the mystery contained in living a good life where he looks at living a just life and what it entails. He also looks at life when there are philosopher kings ruling. The main character in the book is Socrates who is engaged in a discussion by some friends he meets when coming from the Piraeus to offer his prayers. He is walking with Glaucon on his way to the city when Polemarchus catches sight of him and invites him to walk with him along with Adeimantus who is the brother to Glaucon and they end up going to his house. Once they get to the home of Polemarchus, there they find Cephalus his father, his brothers Lysias and Euthademus and also Thrasymachus, Cleitophon and Charmantides. Cephalus admonishes Socrates for not visiting him often yet he is an old man who cannot be able to travel as he would wish. He however appreciates old age since it has given him peace that he could not have gotten when he was younger. He exhorts the goodness of old age instead of complaining as his peers did about the ills of old age. Socrates becomes intrigued and asks him whether his position is affected by the fact that he is wealthy and there starts the discussion of what makes one content with his life. Cephalus is convinced that ones disposition determines how contented or discontented one is with his life. According to him riches whether acquired or inherited does not play a part in ones happiness instead how you have decided to live your life is what matters (Jowett B. pg 11). He is of the idea that a good man whether poor or rich is a happy man while a bad man whether rich or poor is an unhappy man. He defined a good man as he who is just to others. Socrates wants to know what justice is and thus the beginning of the discussion about justice. Since they defined justice as speaking the truth and paying off debts, Socrates wants to know whether there are any exceptions to these rules. He also wants to know if one becomes less just if he decides that it is for the best not to do exactly as required by the rule of justice if it causes more harm than good to obey the rule. Socrates is of the opinion that justice must have a much broader definition than the one currently in use. At this point Cephalus exits and leave his son to take over the conversation on his behalf. Polemarchus is of the same opinion as Socrates but still quotes a respected man and a poet (Simonides) as having said differently but excuses him by assuming that he had not considered all the scenarios that are possible. à Polemarchus is however of the opinion that this rule only applies to those people who are considered to be ones friends. To those who are enemies, the rule of returning what is owed applies strictly even if by doing so one cause harm to the one receiving what is owed. He interprets what Simonides meant when he wrote about justice and assumes it to mean that one should give to each what they deserve meaning that to a friend one should do that which is good and to an enemy one should give evil. If by repaying a debt one is doing evil to a friend, then one should not repay it but if it is to an enemy one ought to be able to do so gladly. In their discussion, it emerges that there are times that injustice is preferred to justice and that in most cases it is considered useless when other things are useful and vice versa (Jowett B. pg 17). After much discussion they seem to agree that a just man cannot cause harm to others whether they are enemies or friends. This then leaves them with no definition of what justice is yet they require knowing what it is. At this point, Thrasymachus enters the conversation but for him to give his opinion of what he thinks justice is, he demands that he be paid some money. He introduces to the reader the third definition of justice which he claims to be the interest of the stronger (Jowett B. pg21). This is because the laws governing peopleââ¬â¢s deeds are formulated by the government which in turn is made up of the strong people regardless of what sort of government it is. Socrates questions this definition since the rulers may be wrong in formulating the laws and make some which may cause injury to them. If the subjects in being just must obey the law, the question then becomes whether by causing injury to the ruler they are still supposed to be just. At this point, Cleitophon contributes by saying that as long as the stronger thought that whatever was being done was to his interest, then it was justice to go ahead and do it despite its assumed harm to him. Thrasymachus defines the ruler or the stronger man as he who cannot make a mistake and if one does make a mistake, he ceases to be a ruler. Socrates asks him who is the master of an art and after it is established that the one who does something best is the master of the trade. In agreeing to this, Thrasmychus finds himself cornered by Socrates because then it means that the ruler defines justice as that which serves the interest of his subjects and not his own interests. This is because a master of an art does all he can for the benefit of those under him and one of the examples given is that of a physician who does all he can for the benefit of the patient yet he is the master of the art. It seems in this case that the ruler has made a law that affects him negatively because it has reduced his social standing. In this way then, the ruler has made a mistake and hence stops becoming a ruler because he has not put his interests first in making the law. Thrasymachus is of the opinion that the unjust man benefits more than the just one does and he defines justice as ââ¬Å" the interest of the stronger whereas injustice is a manââ¬â¢s own profit an interestâ⬠(Jowett B. pg 27). He seems not be consistent in his view since he attributes different qualities to different professions as the definition of justice. The discussion takes a turn at towards perfect societies where the perfectly unjust society is seen as being more profitable than the perfectly just society. Thrasymachus is of the opinion that just people want equality with the just but want to have more than the unjust while the unjust wants more than everyone (Jowett B. pg 32). Socrates asks if an unjust society can be able to rule without exercising any form of justice. He however does not receive a precise answer. The first book ends with the question whether justice is good or evil. Thrasymachus remains silent from this moment on. Glaucon enters the scene with questioning Socrates about the types of goods there are and how they can be classified. They come up with three types of goods an justice is placed at the level of goods which are accepted because by practicing them one gains but if they had another choice would rather not engage in them thus preferring injustice to it (Jowett B. pg 38). In doing this he seems to be supporting the position of Thrasmychus but still wants to hear the opinion of Socrates on the true nature of justice. He believes that people do that which is good because they are afraid of the repercussions of doing evil and if they had a choice they would opt for evil other than good. To support his position, he tells the story of Gyges, a shepherd, who got a ring from a dead mans body that had the power to make one invisible. The ring allowed him to do things that he would otherwise not do with people seeing him. People obey the rules of justice because others can see them but if there is a chance that they will not be seen, then their true feelings emerge and most often than not they (the feelings) will be inclined towards injustice and evil. As the story is told, Gyges uses the ring to become invisible and seduce the queen who helped him eliminate the king and he became the king. It is obvious that prior to his having the ring, he could not have done so but under the guise of invisibility he was able to do much evil (Jowett B. pg 39). Glaucon wants the unjust man to be totally unjust and the just man to be totally just because total injustice can be misconstrued to mean justice. Adeimantus his brother supports him by adding that parents teach their children to be just so that in future they may be able to get good jobs and marriages and not necessarily to make them good. However Socrates is convinced that they are arguing for injustice yet they do not believe in being unjust (Jowett B. pg 45). According to Socrates, a state arises as a result of the needs that people have and it must be comprised of different categories of people who all work together to ensure the goodness of all. Justice is supposed to have led to the existence of three classes of people namely: the rulers, the producers and the soldiers. They all have specified duties and none should try to do anotherââ¬â¢s because that would be deemed as being unjust. They all have their roles and to assume anotherââ¬â¢s role is to rob the individual of his way of earning a living hence becoming unwittingly unjust. Also in trying to add another personââ¬â¢s load onto your own, it would lead to doing a shoddy job hence becoming unjust to those who trusted you to do the job for them (Jowett B. pg 47). Socrates takes both Glaucon and Adeimantus through the formation of a state where the three categories of people exist with justice being defined as minding ones business and letting others do the same up to the point where out of increased needs, the roles start to intermingle leading to a breakdown of justice. People in the state require that which does not belong to them to make their lives comfortable and in so doing become unjust. He then decides to create an ideal city where there is no private property or even wives and children. This is done for the common good and in such a city justice is not required. The discussion changes from whether a city is just to the question of whether there is any possibility of such a city existing. It is at this point that he introduces the idea of philosopher kings. The philosopher king is supposed to be just, a lover of wisdom and of truth. He rules not because he gains but because he wants to help the people who are his subjects. In this state, there is no discrimination among sexes and neither are there classes of people since all are considered to be equal. Philosophers are assumed to be the only people who can be able to decide which pleasures are good for the citizens and hence the need to have one as a ruler. He believes that power corrupts a ruler and the only one who is incorruptible is the philosopher and hence the need to give him the power to rule. He finishes off by criticizing the forms of governments that arise as a result of corrupted rulers. According to him, the least threatening of the governments is what he calls timocracy which is an authoritarian rule that is headed by an unstable minded man who wants to avenge the humiliation suffered by his father at the hands of his mother. Oligarchy is worse than timocracy and is characterized by having a band of few rich men who are the leaders and respect nothing other than money. Democracy follows and is seen as the rule by demagogues who are not even fit to be doing so. The worst of all the governments is tyranny where the ruler has absolute power and rules by dictating his desires and making them into laws to be followed by the citizens. The book ends without any conclusion on the definition of justice but before Socrates leaves his friends, they agree that to live a just life is better than to live an unjust life.

Techniques for Diagnosis of Specimen Question 1 Describe how your laboratory would deal with this specimen? When the liver core specimen in formalin arrive at the Histology laboratory lab, the first thing that the staff would do is the specimen accessioning, which the specimen is being accessioning y labelled it with number in order to identify each of the specimen for each of the patient (Edward C., 2013). Since the specimen arrived already been fixated with formalin in order to prevent it from decaying and also at the same time try to preserve the cells and tissues to be in a ââ¬Å"life-likeâ⬠state (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). After fixation, the next step would be grossing or known as ââ¬Å"cut-upâ⬠, in which in this case the liver specimen need to be dissect into small pieces in order to be fit into the cassettes. After the specimens being put in the cassettes, it is then being load onto the tissue processor for processing through the wax. Tissue processors are used for preparation of paraffin section (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). It will allow the specimen to be in a molten paraffin wax state after a sequence of different solvents infiltrated in the specimen (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). Embedding is the next step where after processing, the specimen is being placed in an embedding center, placed in wax filled molds after it being removed from the cassettes (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). This is the stage where the liver specimen is being carefully oriented because in order to see the abnormal area to be visible under the microscope and thus determine the plane thoroughly (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). Using the appropriate block, the specimen is filled with wax and let it solidify for a few minutes (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). A stable base has been provided for clamping in the microtome when the cassette is now filled with wax and forming as part of the block (Rolls Geoffey, 2011). Now, section cutting process can be preceded. Section cutting is been done by using the instrument called microtome by using an extremely fine steel blade (Hubscher, S., 2008). To get only a single layer of cells that is makes up the section, the paraffin sections are usually being cut at a thickness of 3 ââ¬â 5 à µm (Hubscher, S., 2008). Since sectioning making it in a form of ribbons since they will stick together edge to edge making it easier to picked up onto the microscopic slides on the floated sections on the surface of warm water in a flotation bath in order to flatten them (Hubscher, S., 2008). The specimen are ready for staining after a thoroughly drying (Hubscher, S., 2008). Question 2 Which specific test could be performed within your histology laboratory to assist in the diagnosis? Why did you choose these? Based on the received liver core specimen, it shows that the total iron body content is quite high which about 20gm. Thus, the most specific test to assist in the diagnosis of the iron concentration is Perlââ¬â¢s Prussian blue test (PPB). Perlââ¬â¢s Prussian blue stain is the major histochemical stain that is used to detect as well as identified the ferric iron (Fe3+) in particular tissues [4]. By the principle of hydrolysis of mineral acid, this ferric ion then is being released from the deposition of tissues, which are protein bound. Based on chemistryââ¬â¢s concept itself, iron in ferric state wills formed ferric ferrocyanide since it is reacted with hydrochloric acid. Thus, this makes the insoluble blue compound visible [5]. There is no colored product by ferrous ions themselves, thus their reaction cannot be seen. Within this technique, usually red in color will represents a nuclei in that particular normal cell, yellow in color for erythrocytes, deep blue stained for ferric salts and lastly, stained as blue or black for the asbestos bodies. The stain is composed of aqueous hydrochloric acid, aqueous potassium ferrocyanide and a neutral red stain[6]. Measuring 10ml of hydrochloric acid, which is about 2% in concentration, starts the staining method. Then, 2% of potassium ferrocyanide was added and ensure that the mixture mixed thoroughly by shaking hem well. Next, placed the slides on the rack for staining step and carefully filtered the solution onto the slides and leave it with that solution for about 15 minutes. Later, carefully removed the excess solution from the slides by rinsed it using the distilled water. The step continued by filtered 1% of neutral red onto the slides and leaves it for about 5 minutes. The purposed of this step is to let the slides for having the capable time so that it will be able to attach to the dye completely [7]. About 5 minutes later, thoroughly rinsed the slides by using distilled water to remove any excess dye, which has not been attached to the cells components. The washing step should not be decreased below 5 minutes as thorough washing is required to prevent a heavy dye precipitate resulting from the neutral red counterstain [8]. The slides are then are blotted by using filter papers. Quickly, the slides were rinsed in 70% of industrial methylated spirit and at the same time agitating the slide by making a slosh up and down. Then, placed the slides in absolute industrial methylated spirit (100%) and further agitated for another one to two minutes. Finally, always placed the slides mount in a DPX-type mountant since other mounting media results in fading of the stain. Again, the slides were agitated for about 2 minutes to ensure that there was no gas trapped in the slide [9]. Then, covered the slides with cover slips by placing a mountant upon the cover-slip which is to cover the section on the slide and the slide removed from DPX and then was gently touched on the side of the slide with the section to the cover slip. Question 3 What are the expected results from the staining methods you have chosen? The pattern of iron deposition can be obtain with the help of iron staining.4 The iron stain shows the features of the possible cause of excess iron in the body. 4 The degree of the iron deposition and many grading methods exist to grade the extent of deposition in the liver by using iron stain.4 The main organs that store excess of iron is the liver. Iron stored in cell in soluble compound is called ferritin while insoluble form is called hemosiderin. Only hemosiderin that can be seen using HE stain while the ferritin cannot be seen. The hemosiderin appears as coarse golden brown refractile granules. On the Perls Prussian Blue stain, the ferritin appear as a fain bluish blush and the hemosiderin appears a deep blue in color.4 Figure 1 The liver core specimen1,2 This is the result obtain from the patientââ¬â¢s liver core specimen. It can be seen in the Figure 1 of large blue granules mark. This is how the presence of iron in the cell. The nuclei pigment appears red and the iron pigment appears deep blue in color with the Prussian blue stain. This means there is excess of iron stored in the liver of this patient.3 For a normal human being, excess of iron is stored in the year. Increase of the ferric iron stores can be identified as Hemochromatosis. The excess iron in body can lead to increase iron store in the liver. The iron is stored in the intracellular compartment of the liver.2 Question 4 What additional non-histological tests would you recommended to the following clinican? For the additional non-histological tests, serum ferritin blood test is recommended to be used by clinician in order to detect the content of iron in patientââ¬â¢s body (Adams P, 2008). It is an enzyme-linked assay that can be performed on blood sample from nonfasting patient (Adams P, 2008). 70% of the total iron store in patientââ¬â¢s body can be found in her haemoglobin while the 20% of the total iron stored as ferritin (Hicks R, 2013). The increase or decrease of ferritin level will indicate the changing of iron level in her body (Hicks R, 2013). The normal serum ferritin level is not more that 200ng/ML in women and normal iron level in human body is about 5 gram (Hicks R, 2013). Firstly, by referring to the Figure 2, the serum ferritin blood test will be started by drawing the blood from a vein of the patient (KidsHealth , 2014). The surface of patientââ¬â¢s skin will be cleaned with antiseptic and the tourniquet (elastic band) is placed around the upper arm to cause blood swell in the targeted vein (KidsHealth , 2014). Then, a needle will be inserted into the targeted vein causing the blood to withdraw from the vein and collected in a syringe (KidsHealth , 2014). When the procedure is completed, the elastic band is removed from the patientââ¬â¢s body part (KidsHealth , 2014). When the blood has been collected in the syringe, the needle will be removed and the targeted area will be covered with cotton in purpose to stop the bleeding (Hicks R, 2013). Question 5 Provide one provisional diagnosis for the case study and one differential diagnosis (possible alternative). A provisional diagnosis is basically the first diagnosis or the working diagnosis that is made by a medical professional and it is usually not clarify as the final diagnosis[4]. This type of diagnosis is generally assign when the presenting problems meet some of the criteria for a disorder, but more information required for the accurate diagnosis and it might be modified as the patients care continues and more details of diagnosis presented[4]. Besides, the provisional diagnosis might change depending on the patients ongoing condition, his or her response to any treatments that is offered, and also the patients level of comfort with the new diagnosis. For this case the 40-year-old post-menopausal woman presents and claimed that she had a long term lethargy, loss of sex drive, abdominal pain for 2 months and discoloration of the skin. Based on the symptoms presented the most probable provisional diagnosis for her is Hemochromatosis as the symptoms presented are quite identical (Table 1). Hemochromatosis is the most common form of iron overload disease, in this cases the total iron body content recorded was 20g, where the normal iron levels for women ranges from 12 to 15.5g of hemoglobin per deciliter of blood[2]. Primary hemochromatosis or else known as hereditary hemochromatosis, is an inherited disease meanwhile, secondary hemochromatosis is caused by anemia, alcoholism, and other disorders[1]. The Hemochromatosis causes the body to absorb and store too much iron. Apart, the extra iron builds up in the bodys organs such as liver, heart and pancreas can lead to an organ damage[1]. The differential diagnosis is the process of comparison among diseases exhibiting similar sign and symptoms[3]. When a patient has symptoms that are common to more than one disease or condition, the medical professional will make a list of the possibilities, and then eliminate them based on the symptoms that may not fit some of the possibilities[3]. In this case, when evaluating a patient with suspected hemochromatosis, alcoholic liver disease and multiple transfusions should also be considered[2]. Alcoholic liver disease Liver biopsy in the alcoholic disease patients may show a modest increase in iron. In contrary to patients with hemochromatosis, the hepatic iron levels alcoholic disease patients are relatively normal and iron stores are less than 4 g[2]. Multiple transfusions Hypertransfusion is performed in patients with sickle cell anemia, beta thalassemia major and also myelodysplastic syndrome[2]. Such patients may receive as many as 100 units of red blood cells, which may contain as much as 20-25 g of iron, similar to or more than the amount retained in many symptomatic patients with hereditary hemochromatosis[2]. The Color Purple The novel, The Color Purple, is an epistolary novel. In the letterforms, Alice Walker gives several ideas, such as, friendship, domination, courage & independence. She impacts readers by looking at the story through the eyes of Celie and Nettie. The book describes the fateful life of a young lady. It tells how a 14 year old girl fights through all the steps and finally she is in command for her own life. Celie is the young lady who has been constantly physically, sexually, and emotionally abused. Eventually she turns into a lesbian. In the book, The Color Purple, "dear God, Nettie, dear stars and trees" are the only people she communicates with. All the letters show that Celie is a very insecure person, and that reflects to her teenage years. All the abusing caused her a scar in her heart, which would stay there and wouldn't go away. Every time she thought about the abusement she felt like she was experiencing it all over again. In The Color Purple, there are many conflicts, which arise from the theme. First of all, Celie is against Pa and Mr._____, that shows the conflict of man Vs man, and unfortunately, Celie doesn't have the power to fight back physically. Secondly, Celie and herself that show the conflict of man Vs him/herself. She can't win over herself and that is why she doesn't have enough courage to stand up and be in command for her own life. Thirdly, the tradition of men had high social status then women. That shows the conflict of man Vs society. At the e nd of the book Celie eventually fight over the tradition. Men are no longer in charge for her life. In the book, The Color Purple, Alice Walker used several symbols and personifications to describe Celie's insecure and painful life. From the view of a reader, the title of the book, "The Color Purple" represents the pain and the bruises that had been given to Celie through her pitiful life. Dear God, Nettie, dears stars and trees show Celie's insecure personality, also Alice Walker personalized the stars and trees to be involved with Celie's communication. By reading through the book, readers would understand the discriminations of men and women's social statuses at that time when the story was taking place, and Celie is just one of those young ladies who has a fateful life.

Change in Documentary Genre Essay
The documentary genre has changed over time. Changes in society have had an impact on the change. There are large commercialist pressures for documentary to become more entertaining and engaging to capture a wider cinema going audience. Documentary has become increasingly popular. Documentaries such as Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore have been given numerous awards and were widely popular at the box office. The Grey Gardens is a 1975 documentary by Albert and David Maysles. The film depicts the lives of a socialite mother and daughter living in a decrepit mansion. The Grey Gardens uses an observation style of documentary. It uses old style music and the editing pace is slow. The Grey Gardens provides a very different experience than the more recent documentary. The old style of the documentary would have been entertaining to the audience of 1975 as they were more conservative than todayââ¬â¢s society and would have been able to relate to the people in the documentary. The changes in society have expanded the documentary genre to make it more interesting for the audiences of today. The documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moor is an example of the change in the documentary genre. It is a powerful documentary for the audience as it addresses a very important issue about gun control in the United States. Michael Moore uses humour within the documentary to make it more entertaining and to attract a wider age of viewers than a documentary such as the Grey Gardens. Michael Moore ridicules many of the events and people portrayed throughout the film, such as Charlton Heston, making it entertaining and humorous. The documentary uses a fast editing pace, with Michael Moore creatively putting shots that seem to be unrelated together, such as the Kosovo bombings and the September 11 attacks. As well as making it more captivating for the audience these shots evoke strong emotion and manipulates them into taking Mooreââ¬â¢s side. His intensive use of music as ironic punctuation is able to change the mood of the film from humour, to sadness, to horror. The audience is entertained by the documentary because it is reflecting on an issue that affects the U. S. A, it discusses events such as the Kayla Rowland murder and the Columbine shooting which are well known events to society and manipulate the viewer into taking a negative stance on gun control. Touching the Void uses a different style of documentary than that of Bowling for Columbine. Touching the Void is a moving documentary that uses dramatic reconstruction and interviews, which cut between each other. Unlike Bowling for Columbine file footage was not used as there was no file footage of the actual event. The combination of these conventions is entertaining to the audience as it allows them to connect with the mountaineers. The combination of eerie violin music and the dramatic reconstruction is chilling to the viewer and makes them engage with the mountaineers. The interviews make the story seem more truthful to the audience. The audience connects with the documentary because people in society are interested in other peoples lives and the documentary gives insight into part of the mountaineers lives, with the use of the conventions. Touching the Void impacted on the genre by using this different style of documentary making documentaries more like films. These types of documentaries are called docudrama. The documentary Jesus Camp by Rachael Grady and Heidi Ewing is another example of how the documentary genre has changed over time. Like the Grey Gardens it uses an observational style but has a faster editing pace and uses more modern music such as Christian Heavy metal music. The documentary is interesting to the audience because although it is humorous it is also shocking to the viewer. It uses very moving, spiritual music to relate to the religious theme of the documentary and to evoke strong emotions and opinions of the viewer. The documentary uses shocking live footage and fast paced editing to shock the audience. Like Touching the Void it provides insight into the peopleââ¬â¢s lives showing societies pre-occupations with other peoples lives. The nature of documentary films has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. The film genre has become increasingly successful with films such as Super-size Me, Bowling for Columbine and an Inconvenient Truth being among the most successful examples at box office. Pressures on documentary to be more entertaining have caused some controversy in documentaries such as Bowling for Columbine where critics have questioned where it can actually be alled a documentary as unrelated shots are put together to create a negative and biased view on gun control in the U. S. A. With the increasing popularity and development of ââ¬Å"reality televisionâ⬠, which veers to the fictional and is often staged. This aspect of documentary makes people more suspicious of the genre and less likely to accept it as the truth. The need for society to be entertained will h ave an affect on documentary as they will have to become more entertaining to continue to attract the wider cinema going audience.
